Individualized teaching
at its best. Advanced or remedial in scope, it is special, personal, and specific—focusing on the strengths and needs of the individual student.

who needs a little boost—motivation, if you will—to do
one's best. It is also about developing and reinforcing
good work and study habits.
- Communication Skills CoachingEmphasizes
articulating clearly, and more importantly, it highlights
listening for learning and understanding.
- Social Skills CoachingDevelops
proficiency in managing relationships and building networks.
It is about building strength in self-awareness, self-regulation,
motivation and empathy.
- Advocacy
Growing self-confidence. Metaphorically, it is getting the figure skater to glide
to center ice, standing tall with shoulders straight, demonstrating
an attitude that says, "I want to show you something!" Advocacy
is also about attending school meetings (should parents
request it) relating to their daughter or son's learning
and social development.
- Standardized Test PreparationSAT,
ERB, and other standardized test preparation.
- College Essay CoachingIndividualized
assistance for college applicants.
- Executive FunctioningExecutive Functions are mental processes that direct a person's thoughts, actions, and emotions, particularly during active problem solving.
They include skills such as:
- Selecting appropriate goals for a particular task
- Planning and organizing an approach to problem solving
- Initiating a plan
- Inhibiting, or blocking out distractions
- Holding a goal and plan in mind while solving a problem
- Flexibility, a new approach when necessary
- Monitoring to see that goal is achieved.

TLC Tutor is integrated learning.
We want to light a fire and/or turn up the heat for learning
and growing in young people.
We live in a complex world, a complicated society. To navigate both successfully, a strong sense of self; strong literary, computational, and social skills; proficiency in managing relationships; motivation; and empathy are required. If you are looking for a good educational specialist in the New York City area or the Hamptons, you've come to the right place.
TLC Tutor is about helping young people
grow and discover. Specifically, it's about integrating intellectual,
emotional, and social learning. Everyone has the capacity
to grow. As a public and private school teacher for twenty
years, I have been committed to making a difference in the
lives of others. I have learned and grown with my students,
and I have endeavored to be a positive role model. Words are
powerful; behavior is more compelling!
These beliefs are the foundation of TLC Tutor.
Our method is to concentrate on and integrate the following
teaching and coaching services:
student tutoring, homework support, Executive Functioning Coaching, communication
skills, social skills, advocacy, standardized
test preparation, and college essay coaching.
Each of these services is distinct and I describe them individually to help you think about how I might best focus my work with your son or daughter. Obviously, they are very much related and regardless of the emphasis all the services are integrated. I believe teaching is about making a difference in the lives of others; it represents bridging the gap between what one's students can accomplish on their own and what they can achieve because of one's intervention and contributions. Obviously, this is true for tutoring, homework support, communication skills coaching, social skills coaching and advocacy, even more so, because the relationship is personal.
